As one of the biggest stars on Jordan Brand’s roster, Jayson Tatum is no stranger to special Air Jordan PEs. Last season, the Boston Celtics forward was spotted in everything from a Melody Ehsani-designed Air Jordan 36 Low to the Air Jordan 36 “Taco Jay,” but one of his most memorable sneaker moments occurred before Game 2 of the Celtics’ first-round playoff series against the Brooklyn Nets when he sported an Air Jordan 14 inspired by his unique Ford Mustang during the pre-game tunnel walk. Now, photographer Ric Mestre has provided an up-close look at Tatum’s PE, showing off its luxurious details.
Tatum is an avid car collector, and for his 23rd birthday, he got himself an all-black Mustang with custom bodywork and his initials on the rear bumper. The car’s mix of jet black and chrome is communicated on this special PE by black patent leather toeboxes, heels and collars plus racing-inspired details on both the heel and lateral quarter. There’s also a striking material mixture to be seen on the shoe’s inner and outer halves, with the former boasting a quilted leather inspired by the car’s seats and the latter a smooth black suede. Hits of chrome and red round off the look, and Tatum’s beloved son Deuce is saluted on the back of the tongue as well. The same night Tatum debuted this new take on Michael Jordan’s 14th signature sneaker he took to the court in a similarly-styled Air Jordan 36.
This Air Jordan 14 will not see a retail release, as it was created exclusively for Tatum. If you want to check out some Jordan Brand sneakers that you will be able to get your hands on in the coming weeks, have a look at both colorways of the Bephie’s Beauty Supply x Air Jordan 7.
